Former U.S. Davis Cup Captain Tom Gullikson to Headline Tournament Training Workshops in Connecticut July 19th-20th
Recreational to tournament level tennis players from all over Connecticut are expected at the Tom Gullikson Tournament Tennis Training Workshops Saturday July 19th at Yale University in New Haven, CT and Sunday July 20th at Four Seasons Racquet Club in Wilton, CT.
Join Former U.S. Davis Cup Captain and Olympic Coach Tom Gullikson as he explores "The All Court Game" and "Doubles Strategy & Tactics".
Steve Rogers from Mystic Indoor Tennis will serve as Host Pro for the Tournament Training Workshop at Yale. Steve started playing tennis in college while attending Mitchell College in New London, CT and reached the quarterfinals of the NJCAA National Tournament in his second year. After college, Steve played on the USTA/New England circuit achieving a career high ranking of #6 in Mens Open Singles, #1 in Mens Open Doubles, & #1 in Mixed Open Doubles. In 1998 - 2000 Steve taught at the Nick Bollieterri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, FL. where he had the privilege of working with young stars like Maria Sharapova, Daniela Hantuchova, Jelena Jankovic, Tatiana Golovin and Paul-Henri Mathieu. Steve currently is ranked #2 in Mens 35 and over in New England and holds three certifications: USPTR, Spanish Federation Certification and Pat Etcheberry Certification. Steve now works at Mystic Indoor Tennis and has done multiple fantasy camps with Tom Gullison in CT and Las Vegas, NV. Players will participate in supervised drills with Gullikson and top level teaching pro's in this unique Connecticut weekend tennis experience courtesy of event sponsors Pilot Pen Tennis, The International Tennis Hall of Fame, Four Seasons Racquet Club, Crystal Rock Water & The Player's Edge Tennis Association.
Tom Gullikson reached a career high of #38 in singles; recording wins over Borg, Connors, Nastase and Edberg. He reached a career high of #9 in doubles, most notably in performances with twin brother Tim, with whom he reached the Wimbledon finals in 1983. Gullikson won one career singles title and 15 career doubles titles. He served as U.S. Davis Cup Captain from 1994-1999, winning the Davis Cup in 1995 with a 3-2 victory over Russia in the finals. Gullikson served as U.S. Olympic Team Coach in Atlanta in 1996, helping Andre Agassi to the gold medal. Gullikson also coached Todd Martin, Pete Sampras and Jennifer Capriati.
